Maslow's Palace (2017)

Maslow’s Palace is a participatory urban design game created to generate community development conversations amongst community members and key stakeholders as a precursor to conventional development processes. By presenting problems communities face though a fictional lens, Maslow’s Palace provokes players to think about what they want for their communities in the future, and how they will have to interact with each other and external organisations in order to achieve those goals.

Research has shown that the fictional framing of the game successfully provoked deep conversations about real world issues – particularly in marginalised communities with a low level of consensus around future community improvements. Playing Maslow’s Palace has been found to be an enjoyable and valuable process to players and partner organisations.
